Joyce Skye is almost done!

The title says it all.  I just need to finish some events, test the game, and clean up any messes.  Yay!  I figured I’d take a little break and plan for the future.

I really liked working on this little game.  It was easy, relaxing, and I could see the light at the end of the tunnel pretty early on.  So I was thinking about making a series of little games.  Each game will be called: We Want RPG! [subtitle goes here].  What can you expect from WWRPG?  Well almost anything really.  I’m trying to make gameplay mainly exploration.  I’m also going to make lots of customization.  There will be plenty of story too, but you’ll have to look for it.

I think I’ll try and collaborate with other people, so I can get the games done extra fast.

See ya!

Joyce Skye Gameplay

It was really hard for me to figure out exactly what kind of gameplay I wanted for Joyce, but I finally decided on an “Optional Combat System” (like that of Eternal Eden), and relatively light random encounters in the field.  I decided to make battles show up only occasionally, because they aren’t the point of the game.  This game is, for the most part, just a story.  I think that combat (especially random combat, which this game doesn’t have) can sometimes interrupt a good story.  I also made combat minimal for the sake of the RPG Maker community.  I can’t use scripts due to restrictions, and I think that the default combat system has gotten a bit old now.

NPCs in this game are very fleshed out, and will say something different after every major event.  They almost never say the same things constantly.

There are three different dungeons in the whole game.  Killing all the enemies in the respective dungeon earns you that dungeon’s treasure chest, which contains items you cannot buy in a store.

Current Game Progress:

15 out of 20 maps done

75 to 100% done with eventing on each of those maps

Finished items, weapons and armors

Just need to test skills

75% done with the enemies

95% done with story (just need to work on some minor details)

Still needs to be playtested thoroughly

There’s not that much I have left to do on this game, so maybe this one will see the light of day.

The Sanctuary

I thought that Game Over thing in The Camping Trip was a bit cruel, so I did this instead:

You will get sent to a sanctuary of sorts.  Getting sent to this sanctuary certainly is a punishment, but it’s not as bad as a Game Over.

I plan to make many of these sanctuaries all around the game.  You will be able to set which one you will turn up in.
